The Biggest Distractions on the Internet
Posted by Bethaney - Tagged , ,

As a computer-based worker, there are bound to be a thing or two that distract me any give day. And then there are the ones that distract me every day. The struggle of having too much to do and not enough time to surf it all is way real. Especially when I should be working instead. Here are the biggest offenders: Wikipedia I started off reading that movie description and ended up reading about potential Olympic locations, and about the origin of the games themselves. Two hours have passed and I have no idea how I got here or what roads I took. Someone pull me out of this wormhole, please. Pinterest What a wormhole. An amazing, addicting wormhole. All of Social Media Where I half care, half want to be distracted from work. Old Blogs They could be mine, they couldn’t be anyone’s. But they suck me in and […]

Favorite Ways to Keep Warm
Posted by Bethaney - Tagged , , ,

It’s chilly, there’s no doubt about it. Paired with my general nature for being freezing in tall seasons, it sometimes means staying warm through creativity. Out of all of the methods there are of staying warm — without being a blanket-hoarding hermit — here are some of my favorites. Flannel Sheets Whoever invented these things must be a millionaire, or at least I hope they are. Versions that come in cheesy prints are just icing on the cake. Tea … and a Mug Warmer This handy little surface might be made for candle wax, but it’s keeping my drinks nice and toasty all the same. Slippers So cozy. So comfy. Oversized Clothes Three sizes bigger and this mannequin will be set for longterm warmth. Soup Warm, tasty, winning.

6 Reasons Halloween is the Best Holiday of All Time
Posted by Bethaney - Tagged , , , ,

I know what you’re thinking … it’s a bit early to be talking about Halloween. But seeing as how department stores have been flashing its décor for weeks now, it’s actually fair game. Or so the clerks tell me. As is Christmas in September, apparently. That doesn’t mean I’m pinning my costume or pre-purchasing my candy (which would obviously get eaten). But it does mean I’m ready to start getting pumped about this glorious holiday. For all of the best, and therefore right, reasons like: 6. The Costumes Some are pretty stupid, but some are pretty great. Meaning Halloween costumes are like anything in life, really. But for the great sport who’s willing to wear a full wig at work, or dress up with their kids’ costumes and match in order to take them around the neighborhood, I’ve got my eye on you. And I think you’re embracing the holiday […]

The Best Things About Harry Potter
Posted by Bethaney - Tagged , , ,

For some unknown reason, it’s been far too long since I’ve mentioned Harry Potter. And what better way to make up for that oversight than by dedicating an entire blog post to the wonders that were created by JK (and Warner Brothers) for the world to so fully enjoy? So here you have it, some of the very best things about Harry Potter: The Pandora Station Working to music with words is hard; I can’t concentrate. So instead of fighting it, opt for HP Pandora instead. You’re welcome. Cozy Sweaters Just looking that these quirky monograms makes me want to coze up in a nice sweater. Like yesterday. How far until fall again? Castles and Other Really Old Looking Things Pretty much everything comes with character; no cookie-cutter belongings (or dwellings) here. Honeydukes And absolutely everything it has for sale. Things Dumbledore Says D-ore isn’t just a wizard with magic, […]

Tips for Staying Un-Scorchy
Posted by Bethaney - Tagged , ,

It’s hot out. Hotter than hot, actually. With the humidity levels and heat index, Mother Earth is pushing us to a literal boiling point. (Seriously, has anyone tried boiling water outside? I’m real interested.) And unless we get burned or extra dehydrated, there’s not a whole lot we can do about it. That is, without getting creative. So slather on your sunscreen, pack up a jug of seriously cold water, and try these stay-cool ideas. Netflixing Boring? No. Cool? Yes. In all senses of the word. Especially when you’re catching up on that joint Gilmore Girls/NCIS marathon you invented and wondered why no one else invented it first. Running Through the Sprinkler Who says you’re too old to enjoy this time-honored classic? Certainly not my adult neighbors who run through their own sprinkler every time they need in their garage. (By the way their yard is the exact shade of green […]

The Best Things About Spring
Posted by Bethaney - Tagged , ,

It’s finally spring. Not just because the calendar says so, but because the weather now says so too. And I’m pretty pumped about it. No more Netflixing the day away (you know, unless you want to) while winds leak their way into windows and create way-too-high energy bills. No more starting the car at the front door (remote start, best invention ever) and waiting for it to heat up. And definitely no more layering clothes upon clothes until they just won’t fit. All of which calls for a celebration. For things like: Being Barefoot Who wants to wear shoes when not wearing shoes is a perfectly good alternative? Spring Flowers Pretty and smelling great. Barbecues Also pretty and smelling great. But tasting the best of all.   Sundresses I want to wear all of the dresses. All of them.   Tomato Planting Time There really is no better breakfast than […]

Halloween Isn’t Over, You’re Over
Posted by Bethaney - Tagged , , , ,

Seeing as how I never wrote a Halloween post, I’m doing it now. Or maybe I wrote this three months ago and forgot about it – which seems just as plausible. Either way, this blog is about Halloween. Why? It’s a glorious holiday that deserves to be celebrated online just as much as it is IRL. In fact, it’s so glorious that I devote an entire Pandora station to its themes. And I listen to it year round, not exclusively, but whenever the ghoulish mood strikes. Here are some of the pimp-glorious songs they play. Halloween Hootenanny Sally’s Song Ghostbusters Superstition Riboflavin-flavored, Non-carbonated, Polyunsaturated Blood Honorable Mention Thriller (duh) I Put a Spell on You Weird Science The Time Warp Witch Doctor The Munsters (theme song) Love Potion Number Nine (double duh) Or you can just create your own Pandora station, the obvious choice.
